UniVET – Spanish multiplier event in Madrid

The past 17 of October a Spanish workshop was held at International Formation Center in order to determine the main influence factors in work orientation.

For this purpose, three groups were surveyed: one national group and two international groups, with 33 students in total.

This survey analysed the main factors, personality traits and reasons for seeking in the tertiary education, through the three following questions:

  1. What are the main influencing factors for young people‘s career decisions respectively decisions factors for VET or University?
  2. Which are the main personality traits that influence career choices?
  3. Why do students increasingly seek in tertiary education, although VET would be more appropriate?

Related to the first question, the main influencing factors were divided in six categories: Social Environment, Society, External Conditions, Own Desires, Money and Others. Taking into the account the results, in this question should be highlighted that the family and the salary, or future salary, have a special relevance.

According to the second question about the main personality traits, the answers were encompassed among these categories: Own skills/Interests, Attitudes, Social Environment and Others.  The answers most common were: Ambition, Future and Status or Salary.

Finally, in the third question about the tertiary education, the categories that had been analysed were: Social Environment, Society, External Conditions, Own Desires, Money and Others. In this question, mostly of the students pointed out that University has more prestige than VET.
